The Jiankou Great Wall is located in Badaohe Village, northwest of Huairou District in Beijing, approximately 30 kilometers from Huairou Town. It spans both Badaohe Village (northern section) and Bohai Town (southern section). To the east, it connects to the Mutianyu Great Wall, and to the west, it joins the Dazhenyu Great Wall. Due to the higher and steeper mountains in this area, this section of the wall is more winding and varied in its structure. The name “Jiankou” translates to “Arrow Nock” in English, as the shape of the mountain resembles an arrow, with the collapsed ridge forming the nock of the arrow.
We start at 8:00 AM and, after about 2 hours of driving, arrive at Xishanzi Village in Huairou. We walk through the village and then hike for approximately 1 hour to reach the Due North Tower of the Jiankou Great Wall. Once we ascend the tower, you can enjoy a breathtaking view: to the west, you’ll see the Jiankou section, and to the east, you’ll spot Ox horn edge. After hiking along the Great Wall for about 40 minutes, we arrive at Niujijiaobian. This section is steep and dangerous, with small stones frequently falling. To avoid the risks, we leave this section and take a 15-minute detour on a safer path before returning to the Great Wall. After another 30 minutes of hiking, we approach Tower No. 23 of the Mutianyu section, where you can see the renovated Great Wall. At the end of the hike, there is a slide rail for those who want to try it. The entire hike lasts about 4-5 hours.
Advice:The fees for the slide railand the cable car are not included in the quoted price, so you can either payfor it or go down the mountain on foot. The fee for toboggan is CNY 100
Meals :box lunch, dinner
The Jinshanling Great Wall is a complex and well-preserved fortification system, boasting the largest number of watchtowers along its length. These watchtowers, constructed from massive bricks, stand 5 to 8 meters tall and are spaced approximately 50 to 100 meters apart. Each watchtower features a unique architectural style—some are half-timbered, others are made of stone, some have one eave, while others have two. The roofs of the towers vary widely, ranging from flat and arched to quadrangular and octagonal designs.
This section of the Great Wall is often regarded as an exemplary model, earning the saying that “the Jinshanling section is the most essential part of the 10,000-li Great Wall.” Its robust military defense system includes barrier walls, crib walls, blockhouses, emplacements, watchtowers, stone-shooting windows, arrow-shooting holes, and cavalry defense walls, making it highly effective for defense.
When you stand on the Jinshanling Great Wall, you will be struck by its majestic and splendid appearance, gaining a deeper appreciation for the greatness and heroism of the nation that built it.
After breakfast, we will walk to Zhuanduokou and begin our hike toward the Simatai Great Wall. Approximately three hours later, we will reach the East 5-Hole Guard Tower. For those who wish to extend the hike, you can continue for an additional 800 meters before turning back. Afterward, we will descend the mountain and enjoy lunch. Finally, we will return to downtown Beijing, marking the end of our memorable and enjoyable tour.
