The Arrow Lock to TianTi section of the Great Wall is like a time-traveling corridor that takes you back through centuries. As you step onto the path from Arrow Lock, you are greeted by the gentle caress of history. Every stone, every step, seems to whisper stories of the past. The journey uphill is a meditative one, allowing you to soak in the beauty of the natural surroundings and the ancient wisdom embedded in the wall. When you finally reach TianTi, it’s as if you’ve reached a place where time stands still. The view is a symphony of colors and textures, with the verdant mountains and the ancient stone structure creating a harmonious blend. Standing here, you can’t help but feel a sense of awe and connection to the past, as if you’ve become a part of the long history that this wall represents
We start at 8 o’clock. After about 2 hours of driving, we arrive at Xizhazi Village in Huairou County. Then, we walk through a forest and head west along the wall. This section of the wall is rarely visited by tourists. During September and October, a few Chinese hiking enthusiasts come here, but for the rest of the year, it is almost entirely deserted.
This part of the wall is famous for its steepness:
– One section is called “Cà Biān Guò” (擦边过), meaning the wall is so narrow that only one person can pass at a time.
– Another section, “Sān Shí Bā Děng” (三十八蹬), has a 60–70-degree stairs.
We will end our hike at the “Sky Stairs”, which takes about 4–5 hours to reach on foot.
