Day 1: Gubeikou

In the morning, we will meet at two pre-arranged locations and travel 2.5 hours to Gubeikou. Upon arrival, we will walk through an ancient village and lush farmland before ascending the Gubeikou Great Wall.
After 3-4 hours of hiking, we arrive at the highest peak of this section, known as the 24-Hole Guard Tower. Once we reach the destination, you will relax and enjoy a picnic lunch you have packed yourself.
From the tower, the hike is around 1.5 to 2 hours to the campsite by the Great Wall, where your tent will be waiting for you. At the end of the day, we will spend time together and feast on a BBQ dinner.

Backgrounder:
Gubeikou was a military strong point between the Shanhaiguan Pass and Juyongguan Pass, and the only way to pass through the Liaodong flatland and Inner Mongolia to the central plains of China.
It was an area of strategic military importance, especially during the Liao, Jin, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. Battles to occupy Gubeikou were constant, and, as a result, the military function of the Great Wall became very important.

Day 2:
We will start the day with breakfast at the campsite and then make our way to the Jinshanling Great Wall.
It will take about 4 hours to reach the East 5-Hole Guard Tower. Those who would like to hike father can continue for another 800 meters then return to meet the group.
After descending the mountain, we will have lunch and return to downtown Beijing.

Backgrounder:
Jinshanling was created as a strong military defense system. It includes barrier, crib and cavalry defense walls, blockhouses and emplacements, as well as opening to shoot arrows and stones.
