Introduction
Experience the perfect blend of independent adventure and the convenience of a private tour on this unique Great Wall excursion. Not only will you hike the stunning Jinshanling section of the Great Wall, but you’ll also explore the picturesque Gubei Water Town, a newly developed destination brimming with photogenic charm. This comprehensive tour includes a local lunch, all entrance fees, a professional guide, and convenient pickup and drop-off from your Beijing hotel.
Your guide will meet you at 8:00 AM in the lobby of your Beijing city hotel, after which you will drive to the Jinshanling section of the Great Wall. The hike will begin around 10:30 AM and will take approximately 3 to 3.5 hours to complete. Following the hike, a lunch will be arranged at a local farmer’s restaurant. This section of the Great Wall is considered one of the best for hiking, offering breathtaking scenery with over 17 watchtowers, steep gradients, and constantly shifting perspectives with wide, open views. The watchtowers here are remarkably diverse—some have two storeys, others three; some feature flat roofs, while others have rounded or pitched roofs with upturned eaves. This part of the wall is wild, partially ruined, yet well-preserved and original in character.
After lunch, a 15-minute drive will take you to Gubei Water Town, a rare natural ancient town nestled among mountains, water, and traditional dwellings. With a history spanning thousands of years, the town exudes an old-fashioned charm and elegance. Rows of houses, ancient quartzite streets, and long hutongs define the town’s unique style and character. You will return to Beijing around 6:00 PM.
