For hiking lovers, especially those who love hiking on the Great Wall, this will be one of your best options. You will have the chance to hike different sections of the Great Wall within one day. These sections were originally built during different dynasties, including the Northern Qi Dynasty about 1400 years ago, the Ming Dynasty about 500 years ago, and the Republic of China in the 19th century. You can enjoy your trekking along the magnificent walls with a less touristy atmosphere.
We will depart from Beijing at 8:00 AM, and the journey will take approximately one and a half hours. After walking through villages and woods for about 20 minutes, you will first reach the Beiqi Great Wall. This section of the Great Wall was primarily constructed using mud, stones, and wood, creating an elevated military route through the harsh and rugged terrain. You will see stones and marbles forming a path through the greenery, stretching along the ridges. It’s impossible not to leave behind all the noise and worries and simply immerse yourself in the natural beauty ahead.
After hiking for 40 minutes, you will reach the Ming Great Wall, built during the Ming Dynasty as a defense against the northern Mongol tribes. Here, the Great Wall is made of bricks and stone. The Ming Great Wall stretches like a “Loong” (a legendary dragon in Chinese mythology). As you stand on the Wall, you’ll feel as though you’re riding a giant, soaring dragon. If you’re familiar with Chinese history, the fierce battles between the Mongol tribes and the Ming armies will come to mind as you stand on the very ground where these conflicts once took place.
After hiking uphill and downhill, you will eventually reach a restored section of the Great Wall from the 18th century. The hiking tour will conclude here. Descending from the Great Wall within 50 minutes, you will enjoy a specially prepared lunch by local villagers. Your memorable journey ends here, and you will return to Beijing with all the marvels and wonders of the Great Wall fresh in your mind.
