Accommodation:Homestay at Mutianyu
Jiankou Great Wall is located in Badaohe village in the northwest of Huairou County in Beijing, about 30 kilometers away from Huairou County Town. It is also situated at Bohai Town(North part at Badaohe, while south part at Bohai). It connects to Mutianyu Great Wall in the east, and joins the Dazhenyu Great Wall in the west. Because the moutain here is higher and steeper, this section becomes more winding and varied. ‘Jiankou’, is translated as ‘Arrow Nock’ in English, because the shape of the mountain is like an arrow, with the collapsed ridge opening as its arrownock.
Leaving at 8 o ‘clock, We have 1 hours driving to Xishanzi village, Huairou District. Making our way through the bushes and taking a right turn, we can get on the Great Wall where there are few tourists. (Only in Sept. and Oct) It is known for its dangerous terrain, but we have the chance to meet a few Chinese mountain hikers. At the beginning, there is a part where you will need to stay close to the wall. There is a slope of 38 steep steps with 75-80 degree angles.Further on, there is a part called “Little Pudala Palace” which is built on a very narrow mountain ridge. We go down the mountain by the Heavenly Ladder. The whole journey is four to five hours’ hiking. Afterwards we go to the place where we stay tonight. It looks like a guesthouse but the food is delicious.
This part of wall hiking is not for the kids or in experienced walkers or heart disease, hypertension, acrophobia or feeling bad, etc… Since this part of the wall is not open to the public yet, infrastructure is unfinished;it is suitable for walkers between 20 to 50 years old, who are fit and experienced
